July is here and for Rosebud Centre of the Arts, so is their new Executive Director Adam Furfaro. It took months of searching to find a replacement for former Executive Director Bob Davis, but after meeting Furfaro, Colin Jackson, chair for the centre of the arts, knew they had their man.
“We’re just so pleased and proud of Rosebud that we’re pleased to find somebody who shares that passion for the culture of rural Alberta and we can play an even bigger role in the province of Alberta,” said Jackson.
“We chose him because we thought, this is the guy that could catch that big picture and help take us to even higher level of in terms of what we’re offering and make us even more visible.”
Furfaro has done a little bit of everything in the theatre world, from acting, to writing, to directing to teaching. Both he and Jackson said it’s like his entire career has been leading up to this point.
“I think it’s going to be really important that I really get a much better feel for the arts community there,” said Furfaro.
“It seems to be that Rosebud is the gem of an idea that has blossomed into this wonderful place of creativity and this wonderful place of imagination and people like to go there to find piece and find entertainment. So for me I need to spend a lot of time there and I need to spend time doing many different things.
“I want to spend the first couple of months I’m there actually doing the job that everybody else is doing. I want to know what it’s like to work in a box office, I want to work in a kitchen, I want to be involved with teaching, and I want to take some classes. I want to see what everybody is doing and really immerse myself in every part of the organization because there’s so much going on.”
Furfaro’s goal is to see Rosebud become more of a destination. He would like to see more festivals and things happening in the streets to make it a full day activity for people visiting Rosebud.
