The fall baseball season kicked off this past weekend and the Strathmore Reds are starting with a winning streak. The first games of the season began in Medicine Hat on Sept. 8. The boys, aged 14 to 17, went 3-1.
“The boys had a great weekend, played well and came home with three wins,” said team manager Daren Kennett. “It was a good showing and the boys show a lot of promise.”
The team has a total of 14 players, coming from six different baseball teams, representing Airdrie, Carbon, Acme, Strathmore, Calgary, Drumheller, and the coaches are Dale Anderson, Zane Anderson, and Darwin Armitage.
Kennett said the intent of the fall ball league is to help develop the player’s skills through two practices per week and a 20 game schedule.
“The coaches were pleased with our performance this past weekend. They see a lot of promise with the players. If we play well, we can compete with any team on our fall ball schedule,” said Kennett.
This weekend the team will be competing in a tournament in Calgary, then back to Medicine Hat the following weekend, and the last weekend of September, the 29 and 30 they will be in Strathmore.
The final weekend of the season will be Oct. 13 – 14 in Edmonton.
