On June 1 a new type of dog care facility will be opening its doors to meet the needs of the community.
The Quality Canine Center will be the home of Quality Dog Grooming, Quality Time Doggy Daycare, Basic Obedience Training, Puppy classes, and a Retail section.
“We decided to open this center after many requests from clients looking for more options for their dogs. Doggy Daycare has been lacking in Strathmore for quite some time. We will be the first doggy daycare in town and will offer services starting at 6 a.m. to cater to our commuter clients,” said Melissa David, with Quality Dog Grooming.
“We will offer-all-day daycare, half-day daycare, and drop-in daycare, good for an hour or two. Daycare is a great way for owners to have their dogs socialized, and to get exercise while they are at work or out running errands. We also have a K-9 treadmill, which will be great for people to put their pets on when the cold weather hits.”
The need for expansion has been there for a while. Quality Dog Grooming will still be offering the same service, now with two full time groomers. They will be able to take walk-ins and minimize the wait for appointment times.
There will be a licensed dog trainer offering classes in the evening, starting with basic obedience and puppy training classes. The retail section will feature Cheddar Dogs organic treats, grooming supplies, pet wear and accessories.
David has always spent time around animals, and for her to make them her career was just natural.
“I grew up on a farm surrounded by many animals. My dad always had a soft heart and we would always end up with strays and drop-offs, as people would sometimes ditch their animals in the country. We loved them and took care of them all,” said David.
“Throughout Junior High and High School I volunteered at the Strathmore Veterinary Clinic after school and on weekends and I knew a career in animals was something I wanted. Truthfully, dogs have always been my favorite ever since my very first Border collie puppy Brutus. They have a way of understanding you and loving you selflessly and are very loyal. I love my job.”
Judy Cuthbertson, owner of Primera Racing Stables, has partnered with David to bring this type of centre to Strathmore and Wheatland County.
Cuthbertson has worked around animals her whole life and is the wife of champion chuckwagon driver Norm Cuthbertson.
