Needlework enthusiasts will be happy to know the Strathmore Municipal Library is offering a Stitch Together program. After realizing the town does not have any sort of needlework or knitting club, and that the library is a central place where people can get together, an idea was formed.
“One of our board members volunteered to facilitate a group, her name is Crystal McIntyre, she is going to facilitate (and) just basically host a club,” said Carmen Lefebvre, Assistant Director of Library Services.
“We’re opening it to everyone who is interested in needlework. We’re not just talking about the knitters or the crocheter, if you’re interested in knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, quilting, whatever you want, come on in and bring your projects in.”
Lefebvre said it is a very open club, and participants will be offered coffee and cookies. It will provide an opportunity for people to meet other people who have similar interests, and the same type of passion.
Knitters of all levels of experience are welcome to participate in the club, and because it is a club, patrons are to bring their own projects and supplies with them.
“Our hope for this is that is going to be a sort of group that’s willing to help each other. The way we see it is you’re going to learn a few things and you’re going to make some new friends while you’re doing it,” said Lefebvre.
It is not meant to be an instructional class, but Lefebvre said people who are looking for an instructional class can attend and see what is being offered.
“Maybe somebody will be willing to take you to the side and teach you, but it is presented as a club for people who know somewhat what they’re doing,” said Lefebvre.
The group will be held every second week on Tuesday evenings, starting April 24 and will run from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. For more information on the club either call the library at 403-934-5440 or visit the website at www.strathmorelibrary.ca
