Local youth played hard fought games in the Redneck Rumble Lacrosse tournament held in Strathmore last weekend. The sixth annual tournament was held June 1 – 3 at the Strathmore Family Centre.
Planning for the event began in February and the popular tourney was successful this year, according to Michelle Brown, Strathmore Lacrosse Club chairperson.
“We’ve got positive feedback from everybody,” she said.
The Strathmore Venom fielded one team in each division: novice, peewee, bantam and midget. There were 15 teams at the event, each with 15 to 20 players. The Redneck Rumble is a popular lacrosse tournament in the area and organizers always havw lots of teams wanting to take part, Brown said.
Strathmore teams faced fierce competition this year, she said. The Rockyview Rage took first in the novice division and the Strathmore team took fourth. In the peewee and bantam divisions, the Calgary Knights took first, with the Venom teams hot on their heels in second. The bantam team lost by only one point, Brown said.
The midget Venom team emerged victorious over the Calgary Axemen 2 and took first place. The bantam and midget games were especially fierce, Brown added.
