Iron Chef returns to Strathmore High

Four teams of students competed for the title of Iron chef as part of the provincial “Communities Choose Well” Healthy You Initiative.
The secret ingredient was locally-produced lean ground beef. Teams were challenged to come up with a healthy unique dish, which prominently featured the secret ingredient.
The winning team (4593) who will represent Strathmore at the Provincial Competition to be held in Edmonton on Oct. 27 is the team of Carley Leger and Amaka Onwudiwe. Carol Wachsmuth, the Foods Studies Instructor, will accompany them from Strathmore High School. Participants will receive a chef’s jacket and hat for participating, and the team stands to win a prize of $25,000 for the beautification of their town as well as bragging rights as the 2012 Provincial Iron Chef champion.
The teams consisted of: Iron Chef Brandon Sequillion and Sous Chef Daniel Johnson with their dish of bacon-wrapped meatball, taco salad and beef truffles; Iron Chef Kenny Hanson and Sous Chef Tessa Warren with Spiced ground beef with Japanese Eggplant dish; Iron Chef Kurtis Armstrong-Sinclair and Sous Chef Brittany Klassen-Rau made a beef filled ravioli with three types of pasta & marinara sauce. The hamburger kebabs with saffron rice pilaf and Arugula Salad with Pear Dressing was the work of Iron Chef Carley Leger and Sous Chef Amaka Onwudiwe.  The judges were Tina Shipley of Tina’s No Frills, Tim Aiton caretaker Strathmore High School, Janelle Andrews manager of Boston Pizza and Bob Sobol, Councillor, Town of Strathmore.
