Global Training Centre has always given back to the community and to organizations that need help. In June, Global formed the Global Legacy Foundation. It is a grass roots staff effort to help those who can’t help themselves, and to give back to the community.
The focus of the foundation is to identify needs and address community safety issues, to provide safety education to youth and to help families in the community who have been affected and impacted by a life-changing event due to a workplace injury.
“The purpose of forming an official foundation is that it allows us to take it to the next level by providing a united front and charitable image that the general public can recognize and support, as well as the Global Legacy Foundation can promote,” Bas Owel, B.A, Vice President, Operations for Global Training Centre.
“We also hope that this will create opportunities for people and businesses in our community to volunteer, offer skills and services and support for the foundation. The intention of the foundation is that any proceeds raised will stay within the Strathmore and surrounding areas.”
By creating the Foundation opportunities are also created to help provide resources to people who may be struggling emotionally, financially or may simply need a helping hand up.
“Many times workers compensation does not cover the complete cost of an injury, and more importantly nobody is targeting our youth in a way that helps them understand their own responsibility to stop unsafe work,” said Owel.
“The Global Legacy Foundation along with the Global family of staff are going to work hard to raise funds, and to bring other business or charitable partners on this journey with us. There will be more on this coming in the near future.”
The Global Legacy Foundation wants to see Strathmore and the surrounding area join them on their journey. Owel said people have asked how they can help. He suggests helping by advocating the Global Legacy Foundations mission, help the Foundation find the right partners and program applicant considerations, and finally people can help by supporting the Foundation in their activities, by offering their time and commitment.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to give back, in a unique way; to the community we live in, work in and have chosen to raise our families in,” said Owel.
