Every few months the Strathmore Municipal Library has a new author giving a reading, and possibly a signing of their book. Gisele Jubinville will be at the library on August 4, after first appearing in the Heritage Days parade, to discuss her book ‘Dismissed’.
“She’s an author from up north. She’s basically written a memoir and from what I understand from her biography is she opened up a home business, she sold a patent to a fitted sheet,” said Carmen Erison, assistant director of library services for the Strathmore Municipal Library.
“She made lots and lots of money and what happened with that money is one day she walked into a casino and that was the end of it.”
Jubinville had a gambling addiction and she lost approximately $400,000 on VLT’s through her addiction. In the midst of it all she started calling support lines for help and she accidently came across an Alberta government cover up. Jubinville called Alberta Gaming liquor and control head quarters. She was mistakenly given government accounting figures that no one else was privy to and she used them to uncover misleading information and cover up practices.
“It’s based on a true story, it’s based on an Alberta true story, and she is going to be here in Strathmore to do a bit of a reading from her book as well as she will have books for sale and to sign here at the library,” said Erison.
“It sounds like a very interesting book and I’m looking forward to reading it myself.”
Gisele Jubinville will be at the library from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on August 4. Everyone is welcome to stop in and hear what she has to say and purchase a copy of her book.
Also at the library until July 23 people can enter into a draw to win tickets to the performance ‘My Name is Asher Lev’ being held on the Rosebud stage.
