Gleichen RCMP were called to assist EMS at a home in Siksika on the morning of Oct. 21. When they arrived an unresponsive woman was found inside the residence. Despite administering lifesaving efforts the woman, 65-year-old Roberta Iron Shirt of Siksika, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled for Oct. 23 in Calgary. Gleichen RCMP said it is up to the Medical Examiner to release the cause of death; however, they were unsure if, or when that information might be released.
A 45-year-old woman, Michelle Earp, also from Siksika, has been charged with Second Degree Murder, section 235(1) of the Criminal Code and three counts of Fail to comply with a Recognizance, section 145(3) of the Criminal Code. She was remanded in custody and made her first appearance before the courts on Oct. 25. The court date was rescheduled for Nov. 26 for a bail hearing.
