With the XL Beef issues in Brooks and 2,200 employees being laid off the Brooks food bank was struggling to keep up with the increased demand. The Town of Strathmore made a contribution of $2,500 directed towards the Brooks food bank. The city of Brooks will be matching that amount and donating a total of $5,000 to the food bank.
Youth Club reimbursed
The Youth Club will be reimbursed by the town for fire extinguishers that they had installed, which cost approximately $800. With the Youth Club applying for grants and other sources of funding, every dollar counts. The town normally covers the costs of such items with the Family Centre and the Library as the town owns the facility.
Downtown beautification
After discussion about the wording of a Motion for an Overlay Bylaw for downtown beautification, Council approved a recommendation for administration to begin the process to create an overlay for the downtown district. Because it is a Land Use bylaw there will be public and stakeholder consultation to gather feedback prior to first reading and the public hearing.
Library board gains
new members
Council received requests to appoint two new board members to the library board. Sean MacLachlan and Shawn Pallesen will be joining the board for one year.
