After hearing of other attacks on horses in the Wheatland County area and the speculation of it being cougar attacks Nightingale resident, Fred Armstrong is convinced that’s what caused the death of his horse.
Late Tuesday evening, May 29, or early morning that Wednesday, Armstrong’s horse Bill was viciously attacked and killed.
“We have two horses and the second horse was not touched. We didn’t think it was a cougar until we heard that two horses in Rockyford were attacked. We just put two and two together,” said Armstrong.
By Friday, June 1 the Armstrongs decided to contact Wheatland Conservation and Wildlife Association to find out what could have caused Bills death.
In an interview with CTV, Jim Songhurst with the Wheatland Conservation and Wildlife Association, said there have been cougar sightings in the area, but states they aren’t certain what attacked the horses.
Neither of the two horses in Rockyford that were attacked was killed, but it will take time to recover from the attack.
Cubs have been spotted in the Nightingale area. Anyone who spots a cougar or cubs in their area is encouraged to contact Wheatland Conservation and Wildlife Association at 403-934-3422.
