The annual cosmetology fundraiser, held by the Strathmore High School cosmetology classes on Nov. 28-29, was a huge success, raising $3,000 to adopt three families this Christmas.
Student volunteers were busy from 11 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 3:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Thursday, offering various salon services such as haircuts and colouring, manicures, pedicures, and facials.
“We had I think fifteen students here each night and we were fully booked,” said Cheryl Davidson, a cosmetology teacher at Strathmore High School. “The girls worked really hard and they were exhausted by the end, but it was just a fun Christmas atmosphere.”
In addition to the support from those who enjoyed the services the class offered, many donations were given to help the students raise $3,000, doubling their goal of $1,500. The students will use this money to adopt three local families; together the students will go shopping to buy Christmas gifts to help these families in need.
“[We are] really grateful to the girls for all their work and to all the people that came and supported the event,” said Davidson.
