The annual corn maze, a town favourite, is almost ready for it’s official opening. Kevin Gibbons, corn maze staff co-ordinator, says that the maze will be open from Aug. 10 until October harvest. It will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays, and from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on weekends depending on the weather.
“Groups, businesses and schools can book times outside of the regular hours,” said Gibbons. There will also be some special evening events taking place this year.
The maze growth is going well, exceeding the growth in the same time frame last year.
“[The] corn is over 5 feet tall,” said Gibbons.
Something new this year is there will be three maze difficulties: easy, medium and hard.
“We will have staff at the maze, just in case someone gets lost, we never had an incident last year and don’t anticipate one this year,” said Gibbons.
Admission is the same as last year, with children 9-years-old and younger offering donations rather than admission, and anyone 10 or over paying $5. Children under the age of 12 will not be allowed in the maze without an adult.
“It’s a family event,” said Gibbons. “Last year we had babies all the way to the elderly.”
However, Gibbons does recommend proper footwear and clothing to be worn. There will also be pop and water available for sale, and Gibbons said they may consider adding other activities at a later date.
All net proceeds from the corn maze go to local charities and groups.
