For any restaurant making a good burger isn’t too hard to do, but to make the best burger and be recognized for it? Now that’s something to bite into. The Strathmore Times, in partnership with the Strathmore and District Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Strathmore, once again held a best burger contest.
There were 10 restaurants all vying for the top spot. You, our readers, cast votes, with the top three restaurants then put to the test.
Things were done a little differently this year. Last year the judges went to each of the three restaurants three days in a row to eat the burger being judged.
“This year we actually ordered from the restaurant, sent somebody from the town office to pick them up, brought them to the Chamber office in packages and we took one of each of the packages, cut the burgers into threes,” said Lin Walker, secretary for the Chamber.
Walker, Strathmore Times publisher Mario Prusina, and Councillor Dave Hamilton who filled in for Councillor Earl Best each took a piece of burger and determined which they thought was best.
Clive’s Alberta Beef Cheeseburger was named this year’s winner of the best burger contest.
“I think it was just overall, when you ate the burger it was a good burger,” said Walker.
“It was a tough job last year, and it was a tough job this year because the top three, they’re awesome burgers, there was no bad burger out of the three it was just that this was the best burger.”
“I came by and had one of those burgers here and it was awesome,” said Best.
Judy Muenchrath with Clive’s said their vegetarian cook Aline was the one who said that was the burger to enter in the contest. The cheeseburger, which is also Muenchrath’s personal favourite, stands out in the way it’s presented and prepared, she said.
