Members of the United Church are anxiously preparing for the upcoming charity concert on Sept. 14 featuring Ron Klusmeier.
Klusmeier is a church musician and composer who has ventured out this way before, though this trip is scheduled to be his last.
“This is his last big sort of cross Canada tour,” said Lynne Fair who is helping organize and prepare for the show.
“It’s great because he has composed so many hymns and songs and modern music for the church. We’re delighted to have him back again.”
Klusmeier is planning to retire, and has decided to go out with one final ‘Tour of a Lifetime’ travelling across Canada on behalf of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
The tour began in August and will end in June of 2013. During the tour, Klusmeier will perform and offer workshops on music, teaming with volunteer choirs at almost 200 churches.
“I want my final tour to do something significant for others,” said Klusmeier in a press release.
“It’s my hope that it will inspire other people to action on behalf of the many people in the world who don’t have enough food to eat.”
In his 41-year career, Klusmeier has visited over 2,000 churches across North America since 1971.
The show begins at 7:30 p.m. at the United Church. Twenty-five per cent of all ticket sales will go to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Concert tickets are available by phoning the United Church Office at 403-934-3025. You can leave a message or get tickets from church members prior to the concert, said Fair. Admission is $20 for adults and $5 for youth aged 16 and under.
