The junior, senior and primary choirs at Brentwood Elementary School have been busy preparing in the last few weeks for the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival, which was held Feb. 29 at the Jubilee auditorium.
Brentwood school has been taking part in the Kiwanis Festival since the 1980’s, and this year, thanks to increased choir numbers, there were a total of 220 Brentwood students participating.
“Because it’s a great opportunity to have fun and sing,” Karley Pengelly, about why attending the festival is so exciting.
There are three songs the local junior choir students sang, ‘I had a little nut tree’, ‘Trolls’, and ‘Arcady.’
In March the three choirs will also be heading to the Kaleidoscope Theatre in the Drumheller Valley High School to participate in the Drumheller and District Music Festival.
“I enjoy having the Brentwood students participating in both festivals. The quality of choral singing at Calgary Festival is very high,” said Carolyn Steeves, Brentwood’s Music director.
“It is very motivating to the young choristers at our school. It is also a very neat performing experience to sing on the Jubilee Auditorium stage. The students look forward to both trips and work hard to prepare new repertoire in a very short timeframe.”
The students will be singing the same songs at Drumheller and District Music Festival, which will give them plenty of time to get their songs down pat.
