Strathmore Slo-Pitch is in the middle of their season, and president Guy Bailie encourages adults of all ages to join for the next season.
“Strathmore Slo-Pitch has always been more about the fun than the competitive attitude,” said Bailie. Teams are split into two categories, competitive and recreational, but Bailie encourages anyone interested to sign up.
“There’s really not a lot of difference,” said Bailie of the competitive and recreation teams. Usually when teams are first signing up with new players, they will sign up for recreational. “Really, what it means is there may be a few weaker players in the recreational.”
“It’s purely games,” said Bailie of the schedule. “Both competitive and recreational run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.” There are currently 26 teams in the league, with 13 competitive and 13 recreational.
Bailie said most of the teams in the league are returning teams, but new teams are always welcomed as well. “It’s a social atmosphere, but you also get some physical activity.”
The competitive side of the League Opener Tournament was won by a new Siksika team called 38 Special, but there are many more games to be played.
The league usually runs from about May 1 to the end of July, giving players three months to play and enjoy the physical activity and socialization.
Teams looking for players and players looking for teams can visit www.strathmoreslopitch.com and look on forums to meet people to form a full team. Bailie says teams range from 10-14 people and every member must be at least 18-years-old.
Registration begins in late March, and is based on a first come, first pay basis. Strathmore Slo-Pitch currently has six diamonds in Strathmore, Crowfoot and Lyalta and can only accept up to 26 teams at one time. Strathmore Slo-Pitch also plays by the Slo-Pitch National rules, as well as follows their list of approved bats, which can all be found at www.slo-pitch.com.
“We’ve always strived to have a fun, enjoyable league where everyone of all skill levels can come out and play.”
