Adjacent landowner concerns addressed

During the May 9 public hearing concerns were heard from affected landowners Brenda Knight, Christine Pope on behalf of Ron Urichuk and PMC Corp about the Grandview Gardens Area Structure Plan (ASP).
On May 16 Patricia Maloney spoke about changes made addressing the concerns. She stated the developer has agreed to setbacks, fencing, landscaping, offered utility connection, and dark sky lighting.
The developer will also be happy to reorder phases of the development so that the last phase built will be the one that has the most impact to Knight and Urichuk. There is no offsite storm water until there is a regional service solution, nothing that will be flowing onto PMC’s property. There are still some concerns from council, but for the most part they are happy to see the development move forward and provided second and third reading of the ASP.
Re-designation could see more business coming to town
A bylaw has been approved to re-designate a portion of land on the southwest quarter at 13-24-25 west of the fourth meridian from agriculture general to a highway commercial district. Strathmore resident John Whieldon raised concerns that the current commercial businesses in town are suffering. Whieldon feels that market is being oversaturated, and while he thinks it’s a great idea, it’s something he would like to see looked at in a few years, after the town’s population has grown more.
The plan has always been to have commercial business lining the highway. Council voted in favour of the re-designation.
2012 pathway project approved
Anyone who enjoys walking along the Western Irrigation District Canal and Thomas Drive will soon see some upgrades done. As part of the 2012 capital plan it was identified that a pathway was needed to complete and connect the loop. Tenders were sent out, and on May 16 council awarded the contract to Bow Mark Paving for an amount to not exceed $80,301.
