Lord of All Lutheran Church in Strathmore held their 20th Annual Parade of Nations Supper and Entertainment evening on Saturday night at the Strathmore Civic Center.
The first Parade of Nations event, in 1992, was held in the basement of the United Church and was attended by 54 people. This past weekend 424 people were fed at the Strathmore Civic Center for the 20th Annual Event.
Lord of All Lutheran Church spearheaded this event and has remained an integral part of this eagerly anticipated night. Over 170 people are part of the congregation, which represents 12 out of the 17 different countries (34 per cent from the U.K., 28 per cent German, 13 per cent Danish, 6 per cent Norwegian, 6 per cent Dutch).
The night always begins with a Flag Bearing Ceremony of all the nationalities represented and the singing of the National Anthem, this year led by Karlie Thurn. After Grace was said by Lord of All’s Pastor Dawn Nelson, people were then free to go and partake of the different ethnic foods available to them at the different booths. Participants were urged to enjoy the international menu and “Travel the world without leaving the room and experience the cuisine and flavour of each nation as you visit the booths”.
The Calgary Fiddlers provided the entertainment for the evening.
