A love for helping the community and being involved with youth is what prompted Colina Clark to apply for program coordinator with the Youth Club of Strathmore.
“I’m looking forward to it. I am so thrilled to be joining the tremendous group that I am. The Board members are very supportive and committed to developing the Youth Club itself,” said Clark.
“There are great dedicated volunteers that have been there to run the programming or help out wherever needed, and then of course there are other supportive community members too.
“With this particular group I’m very fortunate to be joining them, I’m very grateful for that. It’s what I love to do, and that’s what they say, there’s no such thing as work or a job when it’s what you love to do, and that’s me, pretty much in a nut shell.”
Clark has spent the past few weeks learning her new role which entails helping the board with planning programming for the youth in Strathmore, scheduling classes, registration, orientation, and overall helping with the development of the centre.
“We’re hoping to have the Youth Centre open early in the New Year. We’d like to run some classes out of it for our next session which will be the second week in December,” said Clark.
“Not all classes will be held out of the Youth Centre but we’re going to try to hold as many as we can in there for this next session. Then have the whole centre up and running, and fully functional for the following session which will take place after REVS.”
Clark said the Youth Centre needs tables and folding chairs before they can begin to run programs in the building, and said the club is looking for people who may be willing to donate them.
The fall session of programming is coming to a close, and registration will be taking place at the Youth Centre from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 29. Devan Ridsdale will be leading the new craft program called Creative Stations for children ages 6 to 12, which is set to start the week of Dec. 5.
