Wheatland County closes Gleichen fire department

On Feb. 15 Wheatland County Councillors issued a press release stating the Gleichen District Fire Association and the Gleichen District Fire Department will no longer be responsible for fighting fires or providing emergency services in Wheatland County. The decision was per council resolution and became effective immediately. 

County Councillors stated in the release they are confident there will not be an interruption to the fire and emergency services in the Gleichen area. In the interim, Standard and Cluny Fire Departments will provide fire protection for the area. 

County council plans to meet with Gleichen and area residents in the near future to discuss a plan for maintaining fire and emergency services. The county said they are committed to making sure proper protocols and procedures are in place for fire protection services within Wheatland County.
