This year something new and exciting is happening five km east of town. There will be a fundraiser for the Strathmore Food Bank. A family has decided that they wanted to give back to the community, so they – with the support of local businesses – have put together the first annual Watermelon Crawl and Fill The Postal Van for the Food Bank event.
This event is jam-packed with things to do for two days and even a dance.
This is the time of the year that the food bank needs donations the most. The goal of this fundraiser is to fill the back of the postal van with food for the food bank. Cash donations will be accepted too.
Organizers have worked around the clock to make this a huge success. The event will start at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 and go till 3 p.m. Sunday.
Now, to the fun part, the events! The schedule is subject to change, but here is an idea of what’s going to happen the Saturday and Sunday:
Saturday at noon will be registration. At 2:30 p.m. will be a dance contest for the kids with prizes. At 3 p.m. there will be a name that tune, and 3:30 p.m. will be a line dance. At 4 p.m. will be time to bring your items for the potluck supper over to set them up. The burgers are sold for a food donation and the fire department is providing the BBQ.
At 6 p.m. there is a dance contest for all ages, as well as a raffle, and at 7 p.m. another line dance. At 8 p.m. there is an air guitar contest and two more line dances. At 9 p.m. there will be a 50/50 Draw and raffle. And at 10 p.m the dance starts and goes till 1 a.m. The music is supplied by All Genres DJ Service.
On Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon there will be a continental breakfast. And 1 p.m. there is a dance contest for kid followed by a raffle. At 2 p.m. there is a dance contest for all ages. The huge prize of tickets to the 2012 Heritage Days Rodeo will be given away, a 50/50 Draw and much more.
At 3 p.m. it will be time to say your goodbyes and see you next year!
Over the two days there will be karaoke all day and sing with the back as well as face painting for the kids, dancing all day, raffles all day. This event is for a good cause so bring a can of soup and enjoy the fun.
This will be a lot of fun and benefit many people that use the food bank. There is day parking and camping for both RV’s and tents. The cost of camping is $10 and you must call ahead to reserve.
