Students from Strathmore High School, SHS, will once again be knocking on doors to collect items for the food bank, not candy, on Halloween. Members of the Student Leadership Council, SLC, are organizing and participating in the food drive. Last year the back of an SUV was filled, and this year the hope, of course, is to collect even more.
“This year we hope to raise quite a bit more, and we are fairly confident that we will raise more because we are doing a lot more advertising,” said Lyse Thielsen, who is one of the SLC members in charge of the event.
There are 30 to 40 students in the SLC and most of them will be heading out, wearing their student identification cards, to different areas of town to collect the nonperishable items.
“I think initiatives like this is important because it’s good to help your community,” said Thielsen.
“It’s also a good learning experience for the students involved so they can learn the importance of charity and helping others. It may also influence other organizations in the community to also step up and help the less fortunate.”
