The Strathmore Thunder bantam B girls softball team is preparing for the Alberta Softball Bantam B Girls Provincials, which take place at the Ag. diamonds on July 8 – 10.
The girls have had a busy season, competing in 31 games to date.
The weekend of June 24, the team jumped up to a bantam A level for a tournament in Calgary, bringing home fourth place.
“The outfield play may be our weakest (area), but come the weekend we will have the players that I am sure will step up and make the big play in the outfield,” said coach Lanky Johnson in a press release.
Most of the 10 teams here for provincials this year have all played each other throughout the year and results have gone back and forth.
Red Deer, Camrose, Medicine Hat, Lloydminster, Edmonton, Lacombe and Leduc will all bring very talented teams. The Thunder will be counting on strong pitching from Kirstyn Johnson and continued strong batting from Leah Dahm, Megan Lecavalier and rookie Alyssa Lavallee. Each team will have a chance to play four games in the round robin on Friday and Saturday, and the top two teams will advance to playoffs on Sunday. Results will be updated and posted throughout the weekend at www.strathmorefastpitch.com.
