The second year for the Just For Kicks soccer camps just ended July 15, and it was once again a success. Between the two camps, one for kids aged six to 10 and the other for kids 11 to 14, there were 37 kids who signed up to take part, which was consistent with last year.
Jenni Annicchiarico and her brother Michael started the camp, which took place on the field of Holy Cross Collegiate, HCC.
“(We had) a lot of returning kids, and some new ones too, which is really good. The kids that have returned from last year you can see the improvement in them from their last year of playing indoor and outdoor, they are having a lot of fun,” said Jenni.
“We have a lot of mixture from a bunch of different schools in Strathmore this year which is really good.”
She said the kids had fun, improved their game and made new friends. The weather was good, and on the few rainy days everyone went into the HCC gym.
“I thought it was really fun, and I learned a lot of stuff last year,” said Daniel Kowbel, 13, who returned to the camp this year.
“I was at my school and I was doing the attendance when I saw this thing that said Just for Kicks soccer camp,” said Scott Dumur, 11, about how he heard about the camp.
“I think it’s really fun for kids that usually have nothing to do over the summer, and it really helps you improve in soccer.”
Dumur’s sister Lauren also took part in the camp, saying it was fun and she had learned a lot of new things about soccer.
Annicchiarico said she would like to see more kids get involved with the camp next year, and said they wouldn’t turn anyone away, instead they would just bring in more instructors.
