The Strathmore Community Football Association, SCFA, annual awards banquet was held Jan. 21 at the Civic Centre. SCFA President Carl Seafoot said the dinner has been taking place since the beginning of the program. It is normally held in the fall, but due to the success of the peewee team this past season, they postponed it and booked it for the next available date.
“So we kind of run the potluck thing and everybody brings something for the tables. Everybody sits around, have supper and go through the awards,” said Seafoot.
Awards were given to players for different positions on the team. Seafoot is also the head coach of the senior team, playing out of Strathmore High School, SHS.
Keenen Fanning was named Most Valuable Player, MVP, for the senior team. Fanning also received awards as one of the Big Sky All Stars, lineman of the year, and a Spartan award for demonstrating overall team leadership, attitude and proficiency. Jake Yochim won the award for Defensive Back of the Year and a Spartan Award. Seth Ballance was in his second year of play and was named Offensive Back for the Year.  Third year player Devin Schultz was awarded the Most Improved award. Josh Stolz was the Rookie of the Year. Denver Roy was also named as one of the Big Sky All Stars. The other Spartan award winners include David Kemps, Tyler Mulcahy, Richard Sparvier and Cory Campbell.
This spring will mark the third year since the inception of the peewee team with Doug Klauck as the head coach.  The peewee MVP was Ethan Monoghan, with Aidan Medicinetraveler winning an award for Offensive Lineman and Jenessa Walker taking one home as the Defensive Lineman. Offensive Back went to Dy-ryan Ryan and Owen Wegner for Defensive Back. The Most Improved Player of the Year was Kobe Hollaway. Rookie of the Year went to Louis Langlois.
The teams will begin their spring training the first week of May.
