Shick, William Murray
William Murray Shick lost his battle with cancer on August 16, 2011 with his family by his side. He was one month shy of his 75th birthday. Murray was born on September 11, 1936 in Swift Current, SK where he grew up, got married and started a family. After several moves, the family settled in Stettler, AB where Murray started his own oilfield services business. After 20 years there, Murray and Kay moved to the Calgary area to be near their children and grandchildren. Murray enjoyed nearly 20 years here in the sign and decal business. He and Kay were active members of the Rocky Mountain Good Sams RV Club, where they enjoyed meeting new friends. Murray was a generous supporter of the Langdon community groups, especially the Langdon Youth Council. Above all, family was cherished by Murray – he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Murray was also an avid Edmonton Oilers fan and although he moved from Saskatchewan in 1967, you can’t take the Roughrider out of the boy. He remained loyal to his Riders through thick and thin.
Murray leaves to grieve, his loving wife Kay, of 54 years. Also his daughters Terri Finnegan and Brenda (Rod) Cheresnuik and his four grandchildren Jennifer, Kimberly, Michael and Sydney. He also leaves behind his sisters Jean, Myrna and Marjorie, his brother Lyle and their families.
Special thank you to the compassionate nursing staff at the Strathmore Hospital and to palliative care nurse Marie Webb.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation(www.albertacancer.ca).
