Bayside Villas isn’t the only new affordable housing complex that held its grand opening on Sept. 6.
Sagecourt is an affordable-housing rental complex, which was created through a partnership between AgeCare Communities and the Alberta government through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, also officially opened the same day.
“Our government is pleased to partner with developers like AgeCare to fund housing for lower income Albertans. While we measure results in terms of dollars and doors…we see results in the faces of the individuals and families we assist,” said the Honourable Jonathan Denis, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs in a press release.
In 1998 Dr. Hasmukh Patel, Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. Kabir Jivraj, Managing Director, founded AgeCare Ltd. to be able to provide supportive housing and long term care communities in Alberta.
In Strathmore, the Sagewood Seniors Community, which is still under construction, will provide 42 affordable living suites and 60 supportive living suites.
The Sagecourt building has been created to provide affordable homes to young families and singles.
“We are pleased to be a partner with the Province of Alberta and provide local families and individuals with high quality housing they can call home.  It is a comfort to know that families can grow and remain successful in a safe and warm environment,” said Patel.
“As an organization, family plays a large part in our corporate philosophy. We pride ourselves in providing housing that allows our tenants to experience a positive, safe and fulfilling community, which in turn becomes their own warm and inviting family home,” said Jivraj.
There are a total of 42 units in Sagecourt, though some are already occupied. The suites are self-contained and the rates are a minimum of 10 per cent below market rate. Renters annual income must be lower than $33,500 to qualify.
