Rosebud is well known for being one of the culture centres in Southern Alberta, and thanks to a new contest from CBC, it may soon be awarded the title of Cultureville 2011. Communities submitted nominations earlier this year for who they thought deserved the title, and those nominations were whittled down to three finalists in both northern and southern Alberta.
“What CBC is going to do is make a video of each finalist, post it on the website. Then the public is going to be invited to cast their vote, what do they think, and what community do they believe will and should be the winner,” said Bob Davis, Executive Director, Rosebud Centre of the Arts.
The winner of the Cultureville contest will be announced Sept. 29 as a kick off to Alberta Arts Days, which runs from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. Rosebud is facing off against Red Deer and T’suu Tina Nation for the title, and Davis feels their chances are good.
“We think they’re pretty good. We sure hope they are. We’re excited to be a finalist and that’s an honour in itself, but we’re also hopeful that our arts and cultural offering here resonates well with all Albertans, and that Albertans will participate in the contest and cast their vote our way,” said Davis.
“I think one of the things that could help us win is that, we’re actually so small that people from all over Alberta come here. So we’re well known all over Alberta even though we’re probably the smallest community nominated, and we think that will work in our favour actually.
“It’s like lots of Albertans own a piece of Rosebud, or feel at home in Rosebud, and so if they feel that connection to us that will work in our favour, I think.”
He said look for more information from Rosebud and CBC and when the voting becomes available he encourages people to log in and cast their vote Rosebuds way.
