Ridge road repairs will be soon underway

The tender for the repair work on Ridge Road has been approved, and was awarded to North Star Contract Inc., who provided the lowest bid. North Star’s bid was lower than what the initial pre-tender budget was, and due to the fact that the repairs will be paid for through grant funding, the town is obligated to award the contract to the lowest tender. The work, which is set to begin August 2 after Heritage Days, will start just to the west of the Station restaurant and will continue to Lakeside Blvd.
Aquatic Centre
The Aquatic Centre expansion project was recently completed and there is a minor problem with the new multi-purpose rooms – a lack of air conditioning. The air conditioning that was put into the building was to service the main entry area and the Chuck Mercer room, but it was not put into the multi-purpose rooms. Council approved an additional capital project in the amount of $17,500 to fix the problem. The funds will be drawn from the financial stabilization reserve. The contract was awarded to Carmichael Engineering.
Bayside Place
As part of the affordable housing project, Bayside Place, council had asked for a sidewalk to be installed from Thomas Drive to the new condo units. The town agreed to provide one third of the cost to install the new sidewalk, with the other two portions to be shared with the two affordable housing developers. The estimated cost is approximately $90,000, with the Town paying $30,000. The Town is considered a developer in the project, which is why they are cost sharing for the sidewalk project.
