Pumpkins for charity

Many residents of Langdon were able to get their pumpkins while supporting their local food bank on Oct. 22 at the third annual Pumpkin Patch Giveaway.
People were asked to donate a minimum of $2, and to only take two pumpkins per family. The money raised, $806, was donated to the southeast Rocky View Food Bank.
“So many fundraisers are done, food drives especially, for the food bank and I know that so many people need a whole lot more than cans of soup and jars of pasta sauce,” said organizer Jill Beaton.
“They need to be able to buy milk and produce and fresh stuff. I know the southeast Rocky View Food Bank bank account is usually pretty low because a lot of people don’t want to give cash to the food bank. It’s just a different way of raising something else that they need.”
Beaton said the event is something people in the community have begun to look forward too, and last year it only took an hour for all of the pumpkins to be sold out.
This year Beaton bought approximately 300 pumpkins from a Superstore in Calgary, the same one she has gone to in the past. She said she is hoping to keep it an annual event, but said it depends on if she is able to get the quantities she needs.
