Standard seniors and other members of the community were greeted by their MLA Arno Doerksen on Tuesday morning for coffee.
Members of The Young at Heart Club in Standard were treated to coffee and were able to ask questions of their MLA about things they would like to see happen in their Government.
Doerksen stays in touch and thereby can assess what the needs of his constituents are.
Of course the top questions were about Alberta Health Care and how it is progressing in the Province of Alberta, and education in rural Alberta. Many of the seniors were pleased at the progress of the health care system (even if it seems slow at times).
Many of them had positive things to say about the ability to receive MRI’s and such procedures where the wait times are becoming shorter. They are beginning to realize that a lot of the problems are a management issue of the equipment/procedures that are available to them. Doerksen said that he “is optimistic to find more efficiencies in the system and that we are heading in the right direction.”
While at the meeting Doerksen had the opportunity to present a cheque of $3676.01 to President of The Standard Young at Heart Club, Duane Binning from the Province’s Culture and Community Spirits grant.
The group applied for and received 90 per cent of its application and are pleased to be able to use it for its 42 members. They will be able to make events more affordable for all the seniors in the community to attend events like the Rosebud Dinner Theatre and Jubilations in Calgary.
Doerksen made memberships available to those attending and encouraged everyone to come out and vote on Sept. 16 and the advanced poll on Sept. 13. for the Progressive Conservative Party’s leadership election.
He was pleased to tell those gathered that “our constituency is well known in the Province and our voter turnout is exceptional.”
