Well over 160 men from Lions Clubs all over the southern part of Alberta descended on the Standard Community Hall on Friday night for the Standard Lions Annual Christmas Stag Auction.
After an all-you-can-eat meal catered by the local Lions group and some holiday cheer, the men held their Annual Live Auction with many items on the roll.
Cody Hayes (the Auctioneer for the evening) held his audience captive with his quick wit and quick eye, with the help of his spotters so as to not miss the occasional nod for a bid.
Two of the largest items of the night included logos for centre ice at the Standard/Rosebud Arena which were purchased by Cody Cuthill on behalf of Normcan for $3,550 a piece, so the total for both was $7,100. Normcan is generously donating the second logo to the Standard Co-op Limited. This will be the second year that Normcan has purchased both spots and donated the second logo.
The second big ticket item is the coveted “shovel” which has been hung in numerous places throughout the area. It was nicely pulled from the hands of Getz and Associates in Strathmore, where it has been hung for the past year, into the hands of Dave Bowes, owner/operator of Chimney Hills Transportation.
In total the Lions Club raised $91,525 in the evening’s festivities. The monies are used in the community and for major projects like helping with the building of the new Standard Community Hall.
