The Strathmore Lions Club held a meeting in the Chuck Mercer room at the Civic Centre on Feb. 12. Charlotte Cummings spoke on behalf of the Lions, outlining their goal of the meeting.
“As a service group we brought you guys together to try to form a committee to start looking at means of funding,” said Cummings at the meeting.
Many of the members in attendance had been at the Golf Club Strategic Planning Committee meeting in late January. There were concerns by some in attendance that there were two groups working separately to attain the same goal. Craig Stone, chairperson for the Strategic Planning Committee, was also at the meeting and reaffirmed his point that a facility is needed, and they are looking for the best result for the town.
“In the end what we’re all here for is to create a multi-purpose facility,” said Stone.
“We just know this needs to be done. Iif that happens at the golf course that’s fine. If it happens at the Ag. Society property that’s fine.”
“In talking to various government officials, the first thing they look at is are we together on this whole unit,” said Mayor Steve Grajczyk.
“Are we big enough to do it alone? Maybe we have to go outside – including Strathmore and Chestermere and all of us towns get together and build a huge one.”
The general consensus of the meeting was there is a need for the Lions and the Golf Club to work together. The next meeting date has not been determined yet, but it was decided it will be one meeting conjoined, instead of two separate ones discussing the same issues.
