Crowther Memorial Junior High School held their annual fundraiser for the Terry Fox Foundation in collaboration with the annual run.
Last year approximately $10,000 was raised and this year the school was already more than halfway there by Sept. 22, the day of the run.
The students are asked to donate a minimum pledge, though it is not mandatory.
“We ask that if you probably spend $2 on chips at a lunch hour so maybe you donate $2. We ask for it, but it’s not enforced,” said Glenda Sorensen, one of the organizers of the run and fundraiser.
Some of the students will do their best to raise as much as possible, which helps the school meet new goals every year.
To start things off the entire school watched a tribute video, which used to feature Terry Fox. This year the video was about students and staff members whose lives have been affected in some way by cancer.
The Strathmore Fire Department started the kids off on their run, and there were teachers and water stations set up throughout the 5.5 kilometre run. When the students returned to the school they were treated to freezies.
