Hearts of gold

Bantam Storm Report

There are many things that can be reported about when talking about hockey instead of stats and scores. This time it is about heart and how one game can make the whole team feel great.
The Strathmore Storm bantam A Tier 5 team has worked hard this season and it has paid off, finishing third with ten wins, three ties and only seven losses in regular season.
They are now going into their third game against Brooks to advance to the final round. According to coach Mike Langen, “Brooks is our biggest rival.”
Over the weekend Strathmore managed to get one win on Saturday against Brooks and then they came home on Sunday and unfortunately suffered a loss.
This team has held their head high right from the beginning. The coach said “finishing third in the division was quiet an accomplishment in my eyes.”
This team is not focused on seeing the W or the L on the stats as quoted by the coach
“It’s really about achieving that balance for everyone to learn, grow and participate in the game. It comes down to no matter where you start you end up successful.”
The boys have had their learning curves and they have walked away with knowledge from that. At the beginning of the year they played a game against Siksika and were up 6-2 starting the third period and they quickly learned to always play on their toes. They ended that game with a 7-7 tie. Not a loss, but a lesson for sure.
Before they had played Brooks on the weekend, they had not defeated them and they had not wanted anything more than to beat them. They had kept coming so close in the previous games. They also had been tied with them and ended up losing in the last minute.
The boys finish their run to the playoffs Thursday when they play Brooks at home. This game will then determine who advances between the Strathmore and Brooks matchup. Let’s hope the boys can bring home a win and maybe even a championship.
