Happy birthday Sacred Heart

Fall of 2001 was the first time Sacred Heart Academy, SHA, had opened their doors, and when they opened earlier this week it marked the 10th year students have filled the hallways. The staff and parents have a number of things planned this year to commemorate the landmark, one of which is a big birthday celebration.
The birthday will be Oct. 14 after everyone has had a chance to settle into the new school year.
“It’s just a day full of fun. We’re going to have a candy corn and popcorn machine, we’re going to have carnival games set up, we’re going to feed   everybody. We’re going to have cupcakes, and just a big birthday celebration,” said Kilee Dovichak, parents council chair.
Some of the kids will still have to catch the bus home, so the morning will be about feeding the kids, having cake and doing a blessing, though everything will run into the afternoon.
The same day as the party, Rita Sweere will be making a presentation about the school. Sweere who was one of SHA’s strong supporters, has also kept a scrapbook of everything the school has done since its inception.
Another thing the school will be doing is having each classroom host a tea for one of the founders and original supporters of the school. They also want to have someone come in every day, whether it’s parents, grandparents, or high school students, and read to the students.
A mosaic is in the works, a picture has been designed to put on a canvas and each student in the school will help paint the picture that will later be displayed in the hallway.
“Something we are going to look at is school council will purchase some sort of commemorative gift for the school and that will either look at possibly in our field doing something to represent the stations of the cross or to beautify our school sign,” said Dovichak.
“Hopefully the details of that will come this year and get something in place for next year.”
