The Holiday spirit was alive and well at the Wheatland Lodge on Dec. 14 when the Holy Cross Collegiate (HCC) Glee Club left after singing carols to the residents.
The Club were originally going to sing only two songs, but  after walking around to say hello and wish a Merry Christmas to the residents, they decided to start a sing-along.
The students may not have known all of the words to the requested carols, but they did their best and left the residents happy and feeling the holiday spirit.
The Glee Club first started at HCC at the beginning of the last school year.
“We always sing choir for mass and it was hard to get kids just to sing for mass without having a sort of fun side of choir,” said Carla Bisharat, an HCC teacher and Glee Club organizer.
“So then we had the Glee Club instead so they can actually sing fun songs in the times when they sing at the spring concert and at the Christmas concert as well and then they also sing at mass.”
Sarah Lyons, the band director at HCC, also organizes the Glee Club and said the students enjoy singing popular songs and performing at school events.
The Club performed on Dec. 19 at the HCC Christmas Fine Arts night, and will do so again at the Spring Fine Arts night in May.
“We sing songs for Mass but then we choose songs for Glee that are more popular which the students enjoy. For example, last year we sang ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ and ‘Africa’ and this year we might tackle ‘Jai Ho’,” said Lyons.
