Earlier this year Bevan Daverne was appointed the new Superintendent of Schools and Chief Executive Officer for the Golden Hills School Division, GHSD. While still somewhat new to this particular role, Daverne is not new to the division.
“I’ve worked in Golden Hills, and the old Three Hills School Division for 18 years. My last role here was as division principal, and as part of my job as division principal I was in charge of technology services for the district,” said Daverne.
He has also worked with all of GHSD colony schools, with the virtual school and with the international program. He said GHSD has a kind of reputation, and history of doing excellent things for students. Daverne is excited about being involved with that in different ways, which is partly why he put his name in for the role of superintendant.
The new school year has begun and Daverne credits his co-workers, and having good people to work with, for making the learning curve a little easier.
“We have a very good group, and so any anxiety I might have over a new role and the challenges in that position…I’m always reminding myself that in some ways nothing has changed, because I still have such a good group of people to work with,” said Daverne.
“That makes coming up with solutions and working through challenges and difficult problems much easier when you have a good group of people you’re working with.”
Daverne holds a Bachelor of Arts degree as a history major, a Bachelor of Education degree with a science and social sciences specialization, and a Masters of Education degree with a leadership focus. He is committed to moving the division forward by creating enhanced educational opportunities for the students.
“I think we have some really good momentum within our AC initiative, and our focus on assessment for learning, and outcome space assessment in the classroom level. So we’re going to continue that work…we’re seeing some really good results from the beginning that we had there, so we’re looking forward to that,” said Daverne.
He said with the situation of enrollment in Hussar and some of the smaller communities GHSD will continue to look for a solution, which works for the community.
