Flooding situations around the county improving slightly

Gerry Van Ooostwaard, Public Works Superintendant for Wheatland County, brought a report, and photos, to county councillors updating them on the road conditions within the county. He said one of the biggest problems now is due to the roads that flooded, and Public Works are still trying to look at ways to alleviate the situation. A few of the roads are completely impassable due to the extreme amounts of damage. Duck Lake Road will be reopened. However, people will need to contact the RCMP to receive a permit granting them access on the road.
Sidewalks
Rosebud will be getting new sidewalks this year. There are funds available through the Streets Improvement Program, SIP, to help fix up sidewalks in the hamlets. Gleichen, Cluny, Carseland and Rosebud all have access to the funding, and David Churchill, Manager of Transportation and Infrastructure for the county, said there will be a change next year which will allow Cheadle, and other hamlets, access to the SIP funds. A motion passed for a curb, gutter, sidewalk and colour to the sidewalk lining the old Mercantile building in Rosebud. Four council members were in favour of the motion, which also indicates Rosebud School of the Arts will cover the costs of ripping up the current sidewalk, and the costs of the colour. A motion was also made for 60 metres of new sidewalk to be built in the hamlet. Gleichen will also have sidewalk repairs done this year.
Cheadle Lions Food grains
County councillors have agreed to continue to support the Cheadle Lions Food Grains project in the same manner they have for the past few years, by purchasing two acres. Councillors Brenda Knight, Glenn Koester and Bernice Bland were opposed to the motion.
Hope College
A motion was made to pledge $6,000, split over three years, to Hope College as a development sponsorship. The money will provide scholarships to Wheatland County residents who attend the college.
Water tower
Restoration of the Gleichen water tower is complete, and is undergoing the final clean up over this next week. Landscaping still needs to be completed.
