After the success of last year’s fundraising steak-and-lobster night at Holy Cross Collegiate, HHC, organizers have decided to host the event again.
“This year we’ve tried to get more people involved. We’re going to be selling tickets at Sobeys from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting on Tuesday (Aug. 30) up until the event,” said Laurie Bratt, organizer.
A steak or lobster plate is being sold for $35 a plate, and there will be salad, baked potatoes, buns and cake to go with it. For only $45 people can get a plate with both.
There will be a cakewalk, and other games for the kids. Two volleyball nets will be set up outside with a mini volleyball tournament taking place. Bratt said they are also thinking about having a floor hockey tournament outside weather permitting, and if the weather isn’t cooperating then they will have it inside. Bratt said it has not been fully determined yet if the floor hockey will take place.
The Catholic Women’s League, CWL, will be showcasing their best pie recipe as a part of the pie-baking contest
“Last year I think we had 12 pies entered. It’s just something to get the whole community together, and it’s pie season so we thought we would do that. We have our judges, and they pick who the winner is,” said Bratt.
This year there are different seating times available for those who want to enjoy dinner. The times are 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
It helps give the people running the BBQ an idea how many steaks they have to have ready for a certain time. Students will also be instrumental in making sure the evening runs smoothly.
“They will be making the salad and washing the potatoes and the Knights of Columbus will do the grilling and the kids will be running the food, like buffet-style, and they will be doing the set-up and the clean-up,” said Bratt.
The school band will be playing and she said the committee plans to ask Kirstyn Johnson to play a couple of numbers too.  The dinner takes place on Sept. 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the HCC field. All proceeds will go to HCC athletics department.
