The Strathmore and District Chamber of Commerce held their annual Business Awards night on Oct. 20 at the Strathmore Travelodge.
“It was a good night. I think everybody had a good time, people hung around afterwards,” said Marcy Field with the Chamber.
“(There was) lots of great networking happening and building of relationships which is what the Chamber is about, and giving back to the community.”
This year there was 35 businesses nominated everyone but the judges were surprised by the winners.
The Business of the Year winners were Fuel Automotive and Accessories Inc. for the small business enterprise, M&M Meat Shops won the for the medium enterprise, and Strathmore Home Hardware for the large enterprise category.
This year the Community Spirit Award was split into two categories, one for a business and one for an organization. The winners of these awards were Boston Pizza and Junior Achievement Southern Alberta.
Another new award this year was the Employer of Choice award, in which people were asked to nominate their company if they thought they had the best boss. Gregory Harriman and Associates was picked as the Employer of Choice. Daisy Does Recycling was voted in as the Emerging Entrepreneur for the year, and the Strathmore Times is your Chamber Member of the Year.
“It went very well. It was a very good evening,” said Field.
Field said the Chamber will be in charge of whatever happens moving forward, but suspects the Business Awards will continue for years to come.
Last year was the first year for the event, which saw 23 businesses nominated and five awards presented.
