Candles for a cause

One Strathmore woman has asked friends and customers to help out a charity of her choice instead of buying her birthday presents. Melissa David, who owns Quality Dog Grooming, has asked people to purchase Gold Canyon candles, and a portion of each sale will be donated to Little Mutts Rescue.
“She purchases my candles all the time and loves them, so she asked me if we do fundraisers and I said yes. She told me she wanted to do it for Little Mutts Dog Rescue,” said Kristel Lang, who sells the candles.
The candles are priced accordingly and include tax, shipping and the actual cost of the candles. She said Gold Canyon donates 38 per cent to 40 per cent of the candle price, depending on the size of the candle. The goal for the two women is to sell 100 candles, which Lang said they figure will raise just under $800 for Little Mutts.
“I have adopted from Little Mutts and they are an amazing organization. I am so blessed and have everything I could ever ask for, and because family, friends and clients are so wonderful and purchase me gifts, I thought I would put this option out there,” said David.
“I love Gold Canyon products and use them in my salon for cleaning as they are both pet friendly and environmentally friendly so it seemed like a perfect partnership.”
The candles are already on sale and the final day to purchase them is Nov. 19 during David’s customer appreciation event in the Chuck Mercer room from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We will have door prizes, free samples from Cheddar Dogs, coffee & cake and something very new and exciting this year, pet photos with Santa,” said David.
“Cody Gregory Photography will be on hand to do the professional photos. He is charging $10 and that includes the sitting fee and a print of your photo.”
Anyone interested in purchasing the candles before Nov. 19 can contact Lang at 403-901-1309.
“I’ll return any call that I get and be more than willing to bring them the scents or arrange for them to get a hold of the scents,” said Lang.
The scents are on scratch and sniff pages. Lang said some friends have been taking them around and letting people get a sniff of what they may want to purchase. She will accept cash, cheque or credit.
