The Brentwood Elementary School junior choir has recently added a former student as their new piano accompanist. Carly Davidson, now a Grade 10 Strathmore High School student, jumped at the chance when asked by Brentwood’s music teacher Carolyn Steeves.
“I got asked and I always kind of wanted to do it, so I thought it would be an experience,” said Davidson.
“We’re really looking forward to Carly doing it. She’s very excited to do it and was thrilled when I asked her, and it’s going to be a big learning curve because she has never done anything like this before,” said Steeves.
Davidson has been playing piano for 10 years, seven of which were under Steeves’ direction. Davidson said she likes all of the classics, especially Bach. She has played her own music but said she hasn’t gotten to the point of writing it down.
Not only is Davidson gaining valuable experience, she is also getting work experience credits through school, an option she doesn’t think is usually available to Grade 10 students.
Every Tuesday she will have rehearsal, and will be playing at all of the junior choir concerts. Davidson also said she is looking forward to when she can play on the Jubilee stage.
“(I’m) so excited, like all those stars who have been on there. I think I’m going to be very nervous when the time comes, but now I’m just excited,” said Davidson.
Davidson will be making her debut in November when she will be playing during the Remembrance Day performance at Brentwood School.
