AltaLink recently renewed a three-year partnership with the Alberta 4-H. The renewal, which took place Feb. 8, allows 4-H the opportunity to continue as a legacy builder and presenting partner of the 4-H communications program.
“Alberta 4-H provides young Albertans with the tools and resources to grow into confidant and capable leaders”, said Leigh Clarke, Senior Vice President, External Engagement and General Counsel.
“AltaLink is proud to support the communications component of a 4-H member’s development.”
4-H is a big part of all communities and is recognized as helping to strengthen communities they operate in. Clarke said AltaLink strives to build relationships and support communities, while providing safe, reliable electrical transmission service.
“AltaLink has been a great supporter of 4-H since 2003,” said Bruce Banks, Chief Executive Officer, 4-H Foundation of Alberta.
“Our 4-H alumni say that public speaking and presentation skills are one of the most valuable assets they acquire through the 4-H program. Thanks in part to AltaLink’s support, Alberta 4-H is one of the best youth programs in the country.”
AltaLink is the presenting partner of 4-H’s communications program, which reaches the club, district, regional and provincial levels of Alberta 4-H.
“We provide $50 to each club in Alberta, of which there are more than 350 clubs, to support their communications program. Through this program, 4-H members learn the fundamentals of public speaking, presentations and develop skills and confidence through a communications event at their club,” said Lyndsay Thorlacius, Communications Advisor Chair, Joint Utility Safety Team, JUST.
4-H members who do well can move onto district, then regional and finally provincial communications competition. At each of these levels, AltaLink also provides monetary support.
“We also provide in-kind support through employee volunteer time at 4-H events, such as judging at the communications competitions and providing electrical safety presentations at 4-H camps,” said Thorlacius.
AltaLink provides 4-H with a contribution of $103,000 annually, $70,000 of which is monetary and $33,000 in-kind.
