Brown and Associates had representatives at the regular county meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 6 to discuss their plans for phase three of the Wheatland Industrial park. They are hoping to re-designate 284 acres from agriculture general to industrial general, and have already completed most of the initial work on phase one. There were concerns and frustrations coming from adjacent landowners regarding the storm water ponds. Due to the heavy rain this year, and nowhere to pump the excess water, there was flooding of the neighbouring homes. Residents, and the county, would like to see the whole storm water system revamped. Though Brown and Associates were hoping to move forward with second and third reading, council recessed the public hearing so that more information and plans of a possible solution can be presented to the public before moving ahead.

County website may get an overhaul
Wheatland County is looking to redesign their website to make it more user friendly. CivicPlus, who specializes in government website designs, development and management, held a phone conference and gave a video tour of who they are, and how they feel they can help the county. The idea is to redevelop the site, which many councillors agree is not very user friendly in its current state. The annual maintenance between the current company the county uses and CivicPlus is the same, and initial setup of a new site through CivicPlus would be approximately $16,000.

Rockyford looking into new waterline
The Village of Rockyford is going forward with its feasibility study for a waterline, and is hoping to work with the county. Aqua 7 and the East Calgary Regional Waterline are just two of the options they are looking into. To tie into the Calgary waterline will cost the hamlet approximately $3.30 per cubic metre. Councillor Ken Sauve is concerned about having a cost like that being added to water bills for a lifetime. The next meeting regarding the waterline and the feasibility study will be taking place Sept. 22.
