A chance to shine at Rosebud

Rosebud is once again excited to be bringing their outdoor festival, the sixth annual 15 Minutes of Fame back to the area on Sept. 4. The little hamlet is well known for its theatre productions, and its School of Arts. The 15 Minutes of Fame music festival is just one more thing that puts Rosebud on the map.
“This is a fun and exciting event for music fans and for Rosebud,” says event volunteer, Heather Little in a press release.
“The music festival showcases Rosebud as a travel, and entertainment destination for both its beauty and artistic expressions. To sit on a blanket or a chair and take in this wide array of music, is both relaxing and rejuvenating. I love being a part of this great event that is a terrific time for musicians and audiences.”
“We’re absolutely delighted to have a guitar virtuoso, and his name is Calum Graham. He is going to be on the world stage (one day), he’s going to be big, he’s phenomenal,” said Royal Sproule, an organizer and performer in the show.
Graham, from High River, played in the festival last year, and Sproule said he brought the house down. Graham also won first place at the 2010 Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Competition. There will also be a few new acts, and a reunion. The Rosebud River Valley boys are reuniting after a few years and will have two fiddler players, a banjo and mandolin and will be doing the bluegrass thing, something Sproule said he is all about.
“Something new, that I don’t think most people get the chance to see at festivals, is we’ve got a 30 voice men’s choir. We call ourselves the Men of the Bud and we sing old mining songs. It’s a powerful thing to hear 30 voices strong like that,” said Sproule.
The festival is a one-day event, which begins at noon and will run until 10 p.m. at the West Opera House Square. Because it is an outdoor event, people wishing to attend must remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the World’s Largest Dinosaur in Drumheller or at the Royal Sproule Art Gallery in Rosebud. Advance tickets are $15 per adult, $12 for youth (12-17 years old) and free for children under 12.
At the gate, tickets are $18 per adult, $15 for youth (12-17 years old) and free for children under 12. For more information on 15 Minutes of Fame, please email fifteen.minutes@yahoo.ca or visit www.15minutesrosebud.com.
