Village of Hussar Candidates – Week 2
Michelle Brown
I believe our three key issues in the upcoming years for the Village of Hussar are;
1. Continuing to work with the provincial government to increase our water licence so our Village has the opportunity to continue to grow. This has been a long process which has put some projects on hold that we hope to continue with.
2. We need to upgrade our water system due to provincial requirements. As well as the need to increase the water pressure needed draw off the fire hydrants in case of a fire within the village.
3. Decrease in provincial funding has caused us to have to find a way to cover the costs needed to maintain Village equipment, street improvements, water upgrades and many other things we use to rely on grant money from the government to offset the costs of. Trying to work within the limited budget that the Village has always been a challenge but I believe that the following years may be harder and we will have to look to other avenues that we have not explored in the past. There are many things that are on hold and others that cannot even be considered due to our limited tax base.

Three key issues as asked by the Times that I would prioritize as important to me would be:
1. To have our streets and avenues (that need it) maintained back into good condition and work towards the appearance of a nice and tidy Village.
2. Communicate with our residents, local clubs / organizations, businesses and to the community to build a team environment for the betterment of our Village and Community.
3. We must investigate every avenue as to find financial resources available by grants or cost sharing as to take advantage of all governing agencies offering these types of programs.

The key issues in the Village of Hussar would be as follows:
How do we continue to get funding (current or new) for projects in these economic times?
We have to search out new sources of funding for the projects that need to be done.
This includes maintaining our infrastructure, roads, water and sewers etc.
We also want to maintain other facilities or upgrade as needed. This would include the Community Centre, Arena, Campground, Ball Diamonds and other recreational areas.
How do we attract new people and business to our village?
We have to do the best we can to have an attractive environment for people. By doing this we will attract new residents that will want to move into our community.
When your residents grow, so will the business aspect as well.
Everyone wants to be proud of where they live and to be proud of the attractions and amenities that are offered in the area for all to enjoy.
What do we, as residents have to do to ensure our villages success well into the future?
We all have to do our best to make sure that we have an attractive place to live and draw others to. Continue to be active in the community whether it is as a volunteer, serving on a committee or even running for council.
We survive on volunteers. Without them, we definitely would not continue to be successful. Volunteers are a necessity today.
They are many additional problems that we face today. But, with time and perseverance, we will win.
