Two accidents in two days

Emergency personal were kept busy last week with two motor vehicle accidents in three days. On June 21 one man was sent to hospital with minor injuries after an accident occurred at East Ridge Rd and Lakeside Blvd. Charges are still pending.

Only two days later, June 23, a Pontiac was hit by a semi at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 817. RCMP were called in at approximately 2:45 p.m. and crews were working for approximately two hours to extract the driver and clean up. The passenger of the Pontiac was taken away by ambulance fairly quickly after they arrived on scene. The driver however, was pinned and the fire department had to work carefully to remove pieces of the vehicle, including the roof, in order to rescue the woman.

“What we did, is we took both doors off the drivers side because we had to get access to her feet which were tangled under the pedal,” said Lt. Terry Satink with the Strathmore Fire Department.  Because her foot was trapped under the pedal, it was the only way emergency crews were able to get her out of the wreck.

The driver of the semi was not injured, and both women from the car were treated for mild injuries. Police are investigating the incident further and charges are pending.
