Tough weekend for local AA teams

The Wheatland Chiefs AA midget team dropped their third game in a row, including two home games this past weekend at the Strathmore Family Centre.
The Chiefs lost 5-2 to the CBHA Rangers Nov. 5, before falling 5-3 to the Okotoks Oilers Nov. 7.
Despite the minor bumps in the road, the Chiefs are still in the hunt for first place in the division, just three points back of the Red Deer Elks.
On Friday night, Abe Jensen and James Price scored for the Chiefs, while Zach Wittenburg added a pair of assists in the loss. Sam McKinnon also registered a helper for Wheatland.
The Chiefs fell behind 3-0 to the Okotoks Oilers on Sunday afternoon before a third period push back.
Cody Burndred scored twice and Scott Butters added a goal and two assists to pace the Chiefs. Devon Westby recorded two assists, while Arron Durant added a helper for Wheatland, who fell to 5-5-1 on the season.
The team will try and get back to their winning ways this weekend, when they host the CNHA Canucks on Nov. 14 (7 p.m.) at the Strathmore Family Centre.
Warriors take a point
The Wheatland Warriors bantam team lost 3-1 in Taber Nov. 5, before recovering to earn a 4-4 draw against the Bow Valley Timberwolves the following day.
Matthew Rideout had a huge game versus the Wolves, when he notched a hat-trick. Sebastian Wittenburg added the other goal for the Chiefs, while Jack Vergouwen and Taylor Donner each added a pair of assists.
On Friday night, Blair Roszell notched the loan goal for the Warriors, while William Conley and Tyler Sharuga added the helpers.
The team is back in action this weekend, when they host the Red Deer Steel Kings Nov. 12 (7:30 p.m.) at the Hussar Arena, before hosting the Brooks Outlaws Nov. 13 (5 p.m.) at the Strathmore Family Centre.
Braves take first points of season
The Wheatland Braves peewee team earned their first points of the season with a 2-2 draw against the Foothills Bisons Nov. 5 in Hussar. Matt Halcovic and Riley Romashenko each scored once to lead the way for the Braves, while Ryan Bell added an assist.
The Braves fell 7-3 on the road versus Airdrie on Nov. 6, before falling 4-2 against the Red Deer TPS on Nov. 7.
The team is back in action this weekend when they travel to Blackie to take on the Foothills Bisons Nov. 13, before hosting Lethbridge on Nov. 14 (4 p.m.) at the Strathmore Family Centre.
